Wake Forest earns 28th consecutive financial reporting award
For the 28th straight year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Town of Wake Forest for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the period ended June 30, 2017.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 19,000 government finance professionals.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by the Town and its management.
An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement was awarded to Chief Financial Officer Aileen J. Staples whose staff, namely Assistant Finance Director Antwan Morrison and Accountant Alice DeGaetano, was responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR.
The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the third award the GFOA has presented to Wake Forest in 2018. Last week the GFOA named the Town as the recipient of its Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for its Citizens’ Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2017. Prior to that, in January, Wake Forest earned the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its fiscal year 2017-18 annual budget.
